Privacy Policy
How we collect, use, and protect your information. Last updated June 2026.
This policy explains what personal information ChapterOne collects, why we collect it, and what we do with it. ChapterOne (“we”, “us”) writes and produces autobiographies on commission. If you have any questions, contact us at myles@chapteronewriting.com.
Information we collect
We collect information in three ways.
- Information you give us directly, such as your name, email address, phone number, and anything you tell us when you book a call, reserve a project, or send us a message.
- Information about the subject of a book. When we write an autobiography, we record interviews and collect the stories, names, dates, and photographs that you and your family choose to share with us.
- Information collected automatically when you visit this website, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you view, and similar data gathered through cookies and analytics tools.
How we use it
We use your information to:
- arrange and carry out your project, including interviews, writing, and delivery of your book;
- take payment and keep records of our agreement;
- reply to your enquiries and keep you updated on your project;
- run and improve this website;
- show and measure our advertising, where you have not opted out.
Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card details. Stripe handles your card information under its own privacy policy.
Cookies, analytics, and advertising
This website uses cookies and similar technologies to make the site work and to understand how it is used. We may use third party tools, including analytics and advertising services such as Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google, to measure and target our advertising. These services may set their own cookies and process data under their own privacy policies. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers we use to run the business, such as our payment processor (Stripe), our scheduling tool, our website host, our printing partner, and the analytics and advertising services named above. Each acts on our behalf or under its own privacy policy. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
We never publish or share any part of a book, interview, or family story without your explicit written permission.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as we need it to provide your project and to meet our legal and accounting obligations. Interview recordings are kept until your book is finished and approved, and are deleted afterwards unless you ask us to keep them. You can ask us to delete your information at any time, subject to records we are required to keep.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal information. These can include the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email us at myles@chapteronewriting.com. If you are in the UK or EU and are unhappy with our response, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
International transfers
We are based in the United Kingdom and work with clients in other countries, including the United States. Your information may be processed in countries outside the one you live in. Where it is, we take reasonable steps to make sure it is protected.
Children
This service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children. The subject of a book is an adult whose family has arranged the project.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of the page.
