Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

That is exactly who this is for. You arrange it, we do the rest. We interview your parent over three or four calls of two and a half hours each, write and print the book, and you approve every page before it is finished. Many families keep it a surprise until the book arrives.

Most books are finished within six to eight weeks of the first interview. If you have a date in mind, a birthday, an anniversary, the holidays, tell us and we will work to it.

A typical ChapterOne autobiography runs 15,000 to 30,000 words, roughly 60 to 120 printed pages. The exact length depends on how much your parent wants to share.

Not at all. That is our job. We come to every call with the questions that get people talking. Your parent just has to show up and answer them. The writing and the shape of the book are our problem, not theirs.

Yes. We can place family photographs throughout the book alongside the story. Just gather what you have and we will do the rest.

You read the finished manuscript before you pay the balance. We keep revising until you are happy with it. If it still does not land, you do not pay the balance and your deposit is refunded. That way the risk sits with us.

By video call or ordinary phone call, whichever is easier for your parent, at a time that suits them. Each call runs about two and a half hours. The plan is three or four calls, and if their story needs more, we make more. There is no software to install. We send a link or simply ring them.

Yes. The story belongs to your family. We never share or publish any part of it without your explicit written permission.

That is normal, and we are used to it. We start gently, your parent can skip anything they would rather not talk about, and most people warm up once they realise someone actually wants to listen. Nothing they say has to go in the book.

It is the hardest version of this, and it is part of why families come to us now rather than waiting. If the worst happens partway through, we work with what your parent already gave us and with the rest of the family to finish something worth keeping. You would never be charged for a book we could not deliver.

You do. The story belongs to your family. We give you the finished files, we keep nothing you have not agreed to, and we never share or reuse any part of it without your written permission.

Yes, whenever you like. Once the book is made, printing more copies for children, grandchildren, or anyone else is easy and inexpensive.

Yes. The calls are by video or ordinary phone, so it makes no difference where your parent lives. We have written books for people we never met in person.
